Love Songs from the Lost Lands
for tenor voice, flute, & harp (c. 11'45")
1. O Distinct 2. The Lover Speaks 2.5. Interlude 3. it may not always be so... This song cycle utilizes three early poems by American poet E. E. Cummings. Each poem places the subject in a different phase of love focusing on a different affliction of the heart. The first poem addresses a yearning for companionship in an otherwise lonely world. The second focuses on infatuation and the euphoria that love brings. And the third and final poem dwells on heartbreak and love lost. The piece is based off of a set of pitches which transform throughout each movement, becoming more warped and disfigured by the end. Performed by Erik O. Rasmussen, tenor; Emily Annesely, flute; Dr. Sonja Inglefield, harp. |
