The Garden

for clarinet quartet (c. 3'45")

The Garden is a painting by Spanish surrealist painter Joan Miro. The painting juxtaposes primary colors against each other with thick outlines. It features various bird characters and strange plants that are a bit reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland. This piece was composed as a part of a collaboration with the State University of New York at Fredonia Dance and Choreography department and thus was meant to be danced to. The piece aims to capture the bold visual aspects of the colors used in the painting as well as the strange creatures in the background.
